Quinta do Lago, a resort nestled within the Portuguese Algarve and the privacy and security of the Ria Formosa nature reserve, boasts three 18-hole championship world class golf courses — the North, South and Laranjal- and has hosted the Portuguese Open eight times. Its new golf course superintendent, Mark Tupling, who arrived in February 2.020 from Dubai, is setting in a program for the optimization of the irrigation system.
“I am an advocate for environmentally responsible approaches and the responsible use of water is one of my concerns. Irrigate efficiently is a key aspect in golf course maintenance today, so I want to optimize my irrigation system, so that it reaches its potential performance”, affirms Mark, who has trusted us for this task. “I had the chance to meet and work with Surtec in my previous experience in Dubai. Their specific knowledge & experience in golf course irrigation, together with the fact of being accredited and certified Golf Course Irrigation Designers & Auditors by the Irrigation Assotiation, were key factors when considering to hire them”.
The first stage of the program consists in the update of the irrigation software. A correct configuration of the hydraulic tree, determining water flow paths and calculating friction losses through the different pipe sections & branches, will allow the Lynx central control to reach its maximum potential. This will warranty both the shortest irrigation water window possible and a correct pressure distribution through the irrigation event.
Currently, the existing pump stations are being audited and we’re studying which would be the most efficient equipment possible to purchase.
